The mountain of Montjuic juts over Barcelona's port on one face, and on the opposite side overhangs the Placa Espanya. Montjuic is popular with pedestrians and cycle riders of all sorts due to its intensive and green trails. Barcelona has not long ago started working on installing walkways and escalators to attach visitors to the harder-to-navigate sections. Today, it is an info and visitors center and eaterie, and a great beginning place to explore Montjuic. Also in the tall mountain you can find some of the finest museums in Barcelona like the MNAC and the Miro Foundation.
The hottest attraction around Montjuic is the Wizardry Fountain, or Font Magica. In daytime, the grand fountain beneath the MNAC staircase appears normal, but after dark, you can see the wizardry part. Music blasts from loudspeakers, and varicolored lighting illuminates the dancing waters of the fountain. Shows run across the summer, from May to October on Thu. through Sun. after dark.

At the CaixaForum, you can view revolving various art exhibitions on 3 floors of a building that used to be a textile factory designed by modernista designer Puig i Cadalfach. At any given point, you are also sure to find performances related to the art being exhibited, particularly world music and modern dance, and there's a good book shop in the foyer. Port Olimpic was built specifically to host the Olympic Games , and became the most successful and favored section of the Nova Icaria project. In this bright, modern area, it was nearly too easily forgotten how traditional Barcelona actually is. With a brilliant night life full of bars, cafes, dance clubs, and folk, the evenings here can be enchanting. Port Olimpic is found underneath the twin skyscrapers Mapfre Tower and Hotel humanities Barcelona.
The Hotel humanities Barcelona is an example of the Ritz Carlton chain, and is seemingly the best hotel in Barcelona. Fine art, from Chillida drawings to Susana Solano sculptures, are everywhere, and fantastic eateries and comforts abound. If you stay here, you will be in walking distance of the beaches and quay, have access to The Spa by Six Senses, and you will not actually have to stroll outside to get to the Casino de Barcelona.
In the Hotel humanities Barcelona, you can find the Enoteca eaterie, featuring Mediterranean cuisine by Cook Jaime Perez and some of the best wines produced in Spain.
But be aware : plenty of the eateries here are anything except authentic, and thieves do cruise the area.
With a gorgeous port looking out onto the Mediterranean, Port Olimpic is an example of the more enjoyable places in Europe to hire a speedboat and just tool around for the day.
It is a recreated Spanish town built for the 1929 World Fair and has virtually a Disneyish feel. Though some see this as a holiday maker trap, if you will not be ready to see much of Spain outside Barcelona this may be a good choice for finding nearly everything you have an interest in.
